From denim to digital

With hundreds of projections in the UK and dozens abroad it was nice to get the animation seen over night by many a passer by, but, after a projection in Hackney Wick beamed between all the street art the juxtaposition while looking incredible and receiving a good reaction, felt a little strange.

From projection to mural

Ian was already talking to his friends at Wood Street Walls and this was mentioned. Literally within a fortnight, it was up on a wall. An incredible feat especially when you think the wall was in ill repair. They managed to get a wall - prefect giving its on a Doctors Surgery wall, and paint it and in time for the ‘last clap’

A lasting reminder

Located at the Bailey Practice on Shernall Street/Barrett Road in Walthamstow and painted by ATMA with Wood Street Walls based on Ian Berry’s Hand Clapping. It’s now there as a lasting reminder of the good will given to those we clap for and hopefully not to forget - and perfect in what is a great community in Walthamstow.

ATMA

ATMA is the Sanskrit word for ‘Soul’. Born in Bordeaux, France in 1979, he lives and works in London.

Visually expressing human and mystical forces in his uplifting works, ATMA’s approach to art encapsulates the hopes and aspirations of the eternal self-quest; his search for truth.

Tout peut se lire sur la toile de nos âmes. (You can read everything on the canvas of our souls)

ATMA’s range of collaborations is extensive, having worked with renowned institutions such as the Lazarides Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, Punch Drunk, and in association with Lufthansa, Dulux, Camel and HTC.

He is a resident artist at Google Arts & Culture, delivering murals, Tilt Brush artworks, performances and talks across the world.

ATMA is also one of the co-founders and active members of East London based organisation Wood Street Walls aiming to demonstrate the positive impact of art in communities.

WOOD STREET WALLS

Creating a sustainable link between the local and artistic communities of Waltham Forest through public art, affordable studio space and free workshops. Their aim is to make art accessible for the residents of and visitors to Waltham Forest through the erection and installation of outdoor public art and to establish a new creative hub for the area. By repurposing a disused and derelict building, Wood Street Studios is a beautiful heart of the community.

Wood Street Walls provide free workshops to the local community lead by our resident artists in return for affordable rent.

founded by Mark Clack and Tom Jackson September 2014 they now have 6 core members - including artists Static (www.welikestatic.com) and ATMA (www.atma-art.com) with a ever growing network of volunteers and affiliates. They are supported by local businesses - Stow Brothers, The Blitz Factory and Matthew Eyles Architects as well as backed by the likes of Cllr Clare Coghill & Stella Creasy MP.
