#iclapfor at the birth home of Levi Strauss
Buttenheim | Germany
Projection opens Ian Berry Exhibition
On the 13th September Ian Berry opened an exhibition of his works in denim at the Levi Strauss Museum in Buttenheim, Germany. It was Levi’s birth house before immigrating to the USA and creating what we now know to be denim jeans.
Once it dropped dark they lit up the building Levi lived in with the #iclapfor clapping hands.
A socially distanced crowd watched as the Mayor, Michael Karmann welcomed Ian Berry to the town of Buttenheim along with curator Tanja Roppelt. Many guests had travelled from all over Germany as well as Austria to see this opening, in the year of the 20th Anniversary of the museum.

Inside the museum alongside the exhibition visitors could watch the small documentary of #iclapfor with Ian and his son, showing the various projections, murals and how it spread around the world, and now Germany.
In the attack of Levi’s house only 4 people at a time could watch the 5 minute film but many were brought to tears. It gave much more of an overview of what it was all about further than just the clap for our carers campaign.
There were also some of the special lenticular prints adorning the walls that moved as guests walked past.
While the clapping in Germany didn’t really get past the first week, the visitors seemed moved by the project and especially by the actions of Ian’s young son, Elliott.
The exhibition is on until the 8th November
