The Piece Hall, Halifax pays a special tribute
This film was one of the nicest ways to cap off what has been an emotional journey - and really brings it back to who we clap for. Rounding off this adventure Ian Berry worked with the Piece Hall ‘Yorkshire’s Best Building’ and Halo Vue to make this tribute - entered around the NHS birthday. It includes many of the other artists hands clapping and messages from the local community - more can be seen on a dedicated page on the piece Hall website.
It launched on the weekend that the Piece Hall opened up again to the public, something that could never have happened without all the efforts of those we clap for. A famous Yorkshire building and a recent success story after the redevelopment that put Halifax on the map 'The Shoreditch of the North’ a recent article declared. Under the leadership of Nicky Chance-Thompson The Piece Hall has thrived and we hope they can again soon now they have opened again.
Ian is from neighbouring Huddersfield and is impressed with the forward thinking and ambition of the neighbouring former cloth Hall. It opened on 1 January 1779, with 315 separate rooms arranged around a central open courtyard It was built as a cloth hall for handloom weavers to sell the woollen cloth "pieces" they had produced. The Piece Hall reopened on 1 August (Yorkshire Day) 2017, after a £19 million restoration project started in 2014. It’s Grade I listed and we give a Grade 1 to the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) who just won the Examiner Achievement Award for the outstanding care given at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) and Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) and by their staff who work in the community in Calderdale.
