CUMBRIA for those who are defending us
No Borders
Cumbria is a northern English Country that borders with Scotland, which of course there is not really a border any more. Carlisle Castle and the iconic Dixon’s Chimney glowed both allowing many to see. The Lake District is in Cumbria a remote region. These are gif of actual photos taken.
Life Savers
Silloth Lifeboat Station operates from a newly built boathouse on the site of the original Victorian lifeboat station. It’s located on the north-west coast of England in an area of outstanding natural beauty. While we clap we must think of all those out defending us.
Strong foundations
Carlisle Castle is near the ruins of Hadrian's Wall. The castle is over 900 years old and has been the scene of many historical episodes in British History. Given the proximity of Carlisle to the border between England and Scotland. Now as we face a hidden enemy the city has to stand strong again and we clap for that.
Dixon's Chimney and Shaddon Mill
Dixon's Chimney and Shaddon Mill
The mill and chimney is a famous iconic landmark in the area. It was constructed in 1836 by Peter Dixon and designed by Mancunian architect Richard Tattersall. The chimney was built to be tall enough to prevent the large amounts of smoke generated by the factory becoming noxious to the rest of the city. In its day, Shaddon Mill was the largest cotton mill in England and had the 8th largest chimney in the world. Shaddon Mill became a Historic Listed Buildin in 1949 and the chimney became an Historic Listed Structure in 1972. In its day it provided work for 8000 people in their four mills in the area. It’s sad to have seen so much industry to have left and employment - but these times have also highlighted environmental issues too.
